Early is On Time. On Time is Late. Late is Unacceptable.

It never ceases to amaze me how being a business owner changes your perspective on things.  For me, the most important thing I have learned during my career is the value of time.  Time is money. Wasted time is wasted money.  Wasted money means trouble.  Trouble for me, for my customer, and for their customers.  It’s one of the reasons we started Proto-Forge – we got tired of waiting.  Waiting for 3D prints.  Waiting for shipments.  Waiting for assembled PCBs.  Waiting for labels, and overlays, test fixtures…  you get the point.  We figured that if we could control more of the process, we could squeeze time out of it.  This would leave us more time for the things that add value, it would help us increase the number of products we could develop in a set period of time, and it gets our customers to market faster which gets them on to developing their next product, and therefore back to our door for product development help, yielding more money.

By having an array of 3D printers with different capabilities, we can run multiple prints at the same time, without reloading the machines with different materials or colors.  By having our own SMT equipment, we can get our boards assembled the same day the raw PCBs arrive, not 3 weeks later.  Laser cutters, vinyl cutters, CNC’s – they all save huge amounts of precious time.  And time is money.  Saved time is saved money.  Saved money means being a better supplier.

Until next time, I’m Wild Bill
